As a copywriter, I produce the most commercial words – as a poet, the least.
As a writing consultant, I help people shape stories that delight and craft copy that connects.
I’ve been a fiction editor, non-fiction editor, creative and editorial director, book reviewer, arts assessor, ghost writer, head of writing, co-founder of an MA in Publishing and senior lecturer in writing.
Collaborating with talented people from other art-forms – photography, virtual reality, illustration, advertising, architecture and film – is a big part of how I work. But, for me, it always comes back to how language and narrative can, in some way, enhance ways of seeing and engaging with the world.
These days, I divide my time between London and Cornwall, and am happiest when reading, running, making up new cocktails or sea swimming.
Or when bringing stories to life – whether it’s in the boardroom or classroom or on the page or screen.
